الْآيَاتُ (46 - 50) قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَبَيْنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ وَعَلَى الأَعْرَافِ رِجَالٌ يَعْرِفُونَ كُلا بِسِيمَاهُمْ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {وَمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ}
Verses (46 - 50) His saying, Exalted is He: {And between them will be a partition, and on the elevations are men who recognize all by their mark} to His saying: {And they used to reject Our verses}
Sunan Sa'id bin Mansur 955 — Verses (46 - 50) His saying, Exalted
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: أَصْحَابُ الْأَعْرَافِ قَوْمٌ قَصَّرَتْ بِهِمْ حَسَنَاتُهُمْ لِيَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ، وَتَجَاوَزَتْ بِهِمْ سَيِّئَاتُهُمْ أَنْ يَدْخُلُوهَا، فَهُمْ عَلَى سُورٍ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ لَمْ يَدْخُلُوهَا وَهُمْ يَطْمَعُونَ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The people of A'raf are those whose good deeds fell short of granting them entry into Paradise, and whose sins were also not enough to take them to Hell. Thus, they will be on a wall between Paradise and Hell, not having entered Paradise, and they will be hoping to enter Paradise.
