أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْعَزْلِ، فَقَالَ: قُلْ يَا حَجَّاجُ قَالَ: «حَرْثُكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ سَقَيْتَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ عَطَّشْتَهُ»
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is your field; if you wish, water it, and if you wish, withhold (water from) it."
