Hadith 3089

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ (1)جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فِي الْإِيلَاءِ: « يُوقَفُ عِنْدَ الْأَرْبَعَةِ الْأَشْهُرِ، فَإِمَّا أَنْ يَفِيءَ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُطَلِّقَ » .
From Abdul Aziz ibn Ja'far, from his father, that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said regarding ila': "He is held at the completion of four months; then either he returns or he divorces."
Brief Explanation
Although this narration contains some ambiguity in its chain of transmission, since this subject matter is also established from Ali radi Allahu anhu through other authentic chains (1909, 1910), and here too the wording is the same: "He is made to wait for four months; then either he returns (to marital relations), or he divorces," therefore, this narration is reliable and corroborative in terms of its content.
