Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I took Abdullah bin Abi Talhah al-Ansari to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was born, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a cloak and applying tar to a camel of his. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have any dates?" I replied that I did. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took the dates, put them in his mouth and chewed them, then took them out and put them into the child's mouth. The child began to suck on the date, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Ansar love dates." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Abdullah.

Sayyiduna Abu Burdah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A son was born in my house, and I took him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Ibrahim and did tahnik for him with a date. In the narration of Abu Usamah (may Allah have mercy on him) these words are additional: he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for blessing for him and gave him back, and he was the eldest son of Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him).
