Urwah al-Bariqi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection, that is, reward and spoils." These are the words of Abu Nu'aym's hadith; in al-Azraq's narration the words "reward and spoils" are not present.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Three things are from the root of faith: (1) Refraining from (harming) one who testifies 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god but Allah); not declaring him a disbeliever because of a sin, and not declaring him outside Islam because of a deed. (2) Jihad will continue until the Day of Resurrection; from when Allah Almighty sent me until the last of my ummah fights the Dajjal, neither the justice of a just one nor the tyranny of a tyrant will nullify it. (3) Belief in divine decree." (b) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jihad is obligatory along with every ruler, whether righteous or wicked."
