Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Jews brought a woman and a man to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who had committed adultery. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring the two most learned men among you." So the two sons of Surya were brought. He put them under oath and asked: "What ruling do you find in the Torah concerning these two?" They said: In the Torah it is that when four witnesses testify that they saw his private part in hers like a kohl stick in a kohl container, they are to be stoned. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Then why do you not stone them?" They replied: Our ruling authority has gone, so we disliked killing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for the witnesses, and the four of them gave exactly the same explicit testimony, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) had them stoned.

Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) says that people testified before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) against a man for adultery. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Is this how you testify? He formed the sign for ten and inserted the right index finger into the left.
