Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a group went to Khaybar and found a slain man there; then he narrated the long hadith of qasamah (collective oaths), in which it is also stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked that his blood should go to waste, and he paid his diyah with 100 of the camels of charity (sadaqah).

Makhramah bin Bukayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (who said): I heard Sulayman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) say: The ages of the camels in the diyah are: one fifth banat labun, one fifth banat makhad, one fifth hiqqahs, one fifth jadha'ahs and one fifth male banu labun. And Sulayman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The diyah for wounds is likewise according to these ages. Bukayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ibn Qusayt (may Allah have mercy on him) also said this: the ages of the camels of the diyah are five, as Sulayman (may Allah have mercy on him) said, when it is accidental killing.

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad (may Allah have mercy on him) reports the statement of his father: Among the jurists of ours whom I met, and whose word was regarded as final, were Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, Urwah bin al-Zubayr, al-Qasim bin Muhammad, Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman, Kharijah bin Zayd bin Thabit, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah and Sulayman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on them), along with other senior shaykhs like them. When they differed on something, we took the view of the majority of them. They all used to say: In accidental killing the diyah is of five categories: jadha'ahs, hiqqahs, banat labun, banat makhad and male banu labun; and in every wound, whether small or large, the ages are likewise in five fifths in this same manner.
