It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that I said: From the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: (It is narrated) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward for it, it is recorded for him as charity." Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in his Sahih, and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it through two other chains from Shu'bah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to visit me in my illness) while I was in Makkah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked that any of us should die in the land from which we had emigrated. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on the son of Afra'." I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "I wish to bequeath all my wealth." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." I said: "Then half?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." I said: "A third?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A third, and a third is a lot. That you leave your heirs rich is better than that you leave them poor, stretching out their hands to people. Whatever you spend on your family is charity, even the morsel that you raise to your wife's mouth is charity. And it may be that Allah will benefit one people through you and harm others through you." At that time he had only one daughter.
Bukhari recorded it in the Sahih from Abu Nu'aym and Muhammad bin Kathir, and Muslim recorded it through another chain from Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him).

Mujahid narrates from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A dinar that you give to a poor person, a dinar that you give to free a slave, a dinar that you have given in the path of Allah, and a dinar that you have spent on your family: the dinar that you have spent on your family is the greatest in reward."
Muslim recorded it in the Sahih from the hadith of Sufyan al-Thawri.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best dinar a man spends is the dinar he spends on his family, the dinar a man spends on his riding animal in the path of Allah, and the dinar a man spends on his companions in the path of Allah." Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) began with the family. Which man is greater in reward than a man who spends on his young family, through which Allah Almighty provides them with food and Allah Almighty benefits them by it? Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in the Sahih from Abu al-Rabi'.
