It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Ya'la used to say to Umar: I wish I could see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when revelation is coming down to him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at al-Ji'ranah, with a cloth over him (peace and blessings be upon him) that was shading him (peace and blessings be upon him), and some of his Companions were with him (peace and blessings be upon him), a man came who was drenched in perfume. He said: "O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is your view about a man who enters ihram in his cloak (jubbah) after applying perfume?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him for a moment, and then the revelation came. Umar beckoned to Ya'la with his hand to come, so Ya'la came and put his head in, and there he (peace and blessings be upon him) was, his face red, breathing heavily; he remained like that for a while, and then it was lifted from him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is the questioner, the one who asked about Umrah just now?" A man searched for him and he was brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for the perfume that is on you, wash it off three times, and as for the cloak, take it off. Then do in your Umrah everything you do in your Hajj."

A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which spot (of land) is the best? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know." Then he said: Which spot is the worst? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know." The narrator says: Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "O Jibril, which spot is the best?" He said: I do not know. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Jibril, which spot is the worst?" He said: I do not know. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask your Lord." The narrator says: Jibril (peace be upon him) shuddered so violently that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) almost fell unconscious, and Jibril said: I do not ask Him about anything. Allah Almighty said to Jibril, the Trustworthy: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked you which spot is the best, and you said: I do not know; and he asked you which spot is the worst, and you said: I do not know. So tell him: "The mosques are the best places, and the markets are the worst places."
