أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنبأ سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ مَعَ زَيْدِ بْنِ صُوحَانَ وَسَلْمَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، فَالْتَقَطْتُ سَوْطًا بِالْعُذَيْبِ، فَقَالَا: دَعْهُ دَعْهُ، قُلْتُ: وَاللهِ لَا أَدَعُهُ تَأْكُلُهُ السِّبَاعُ، لَأَسْتَمْتِعَنَّ بِهِ، فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَى أُبِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَحْسَنْتَ أَحْسَنْتَ، إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صُرَّةً فِيهَا مِائَةُ دِينَارٍ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا "، فَعَرَّفْتُهَا حَوْلًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا "، فَعَرَّفْتُهَا حَوْلًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا "، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ بِهَا بَعْدَ أَحْوَالٍ ثَلَاثَةٍ، فَقَالَ: " اعْرِفْ عَدَدَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا وَوِعَاءَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يُخْبِرُكَ بِعَدَدِهَا وَوِكَائِهَا فَادْفَعْهَا إِلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا فَاسْتَمْتِعْ بِهَا " أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Suwayd bin Ghafalah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I went out with Zayd bin Suhan and Salman bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with them both), and I picked up a whip at a place called al-Udhayb. The two of them said: Leave it. I said: By Allah! I will not leave it; wild animals would eat it. I will make use of it. I went to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this to him, and he said: You did well, you did well. In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) I found a purse containing a hundred dinars. I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for a year." I announced it for a year, then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Announce it for another year." When I came after three times, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Know its number and its tie well. If someone comes and tells you its number and also its tie, then give it to him; otherwise make use of it."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أنبأ يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ قَابُوسَ بْنِ أَبِي ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: " لَا تَرْفَعْهَا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ، لَسْتَ مِنْهَا فِي شَيْءٍ، يَعْنِي اللُّقَطَةَ " وَقَوْلُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فِي ذَلِكَ قَدْ مَضَى فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ الْأُولَى.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Do not pick it up from the ground; you have nothing to do with it, meaning lost property.
