It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people had a dispute about an enclosure that lay between them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to judge. I ruled in favour of the one on whose side the binding cords were. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You judged correctly."
Dahtham bin Qurran al-Yamami alone narrated this hadith, and he is da'if (weak); and there is disagreement over him in its chain: it has been narrated this way and in two other ways.

It is narrated from Jariyah bin Zafar that two brothers owned a house, and they put up a partition fence in the middle of it. Then both of them died and left behind children. The children of each claimed the fence. Their case came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he sent Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) to judge between them. The fence was then judged in favour of the one on whose side the binding cords were. Then Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) came back and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "You have judged correctly."

Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a dispute about a reed hut. He (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) with them. Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled in favour of the one on whose side the cords were. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You have judged well."
These are three conflicting versions of its chain from Dahtham bin Qurran.

Yahya bin Ma'in (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Dahtham bin Qurran is da'if (weak).
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In the narration of Ibn Abi Maryam from him, Yahya bin Ma'in counted him among the people of Yamamah whose hadith is not to be written down; and Ahmad bin Hanbal also declared him weak and said: His hadith is not to be written down.

Simak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a man of the people of Basrah that some people came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) with a dispute about a reed hut. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) judged between them that whichever of them was nearer to the cords was more entitled to it.
This is munqati' (broken); al-Walid bin Abi Thawr narrated it from Simak, from Hanash, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and that is not strong. And Allah knows best.
