Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), says that whenever the wind blew he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bih, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bih' (O Allah, I ask You for its good, and the good that is in it, and the good with which it has been sent; and I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil that is in it, and the evil with which it has been sent). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the sky became overcast, his (peace and blessings be upon him) colour would change; at times he (peace and blessings be upon him) would go out, at times come in, at times come forward and at times turn back. When the rain fell, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would be relieved by it. When she came to know this, she asked him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! Perhaps it may be as it was with the people of Ad: "Then when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said: This is a cloud bringing us rain" [Surah al-Ahqaf: 24]."

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once a strong wind overtook the people while they were on the road to Makkah, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was going for Hajj, and the wind became very severe. So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the people around him: "What is the wind?" But they gave him no answer. Then the news reached me that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had asked this question, so I urged my mount towards him until I caught up with him, and I said: O Commander of the Believers! I have been told that you asked about the wind, and I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The wind is from the mercy of Allah; it brings mercy and it brings punishment, so do not curse it. Ask Allah Almighty for its good and seek refuge in Him from its evil."
