قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {وَلْيَأْخُذُوا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ} [النساء: 102].
Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: "And let them carry their arms." [Surah al-Nisa: 102]
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ قَالَ:: " كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعُسْفَانَ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ صَلَاةُ الظُّهْرِ، وَعَلَى خَيْلِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ الظُّهْرَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ: إِنَّ لَهُمْ صَلَاةً بَعْدَ هَذِهِ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ، يَعْنُونَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ، فَنَزَلَ جَبْرَئِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ، وَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ} [النساء: ١٠٢] الْآيَةَ إِلَى آخِرِهَا، فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَصَفَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَفَّينِ، وَعَلَيْهِمُ السِّلَاحُ، فَكَبَّرَ وَالْعَدُوُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَبَّرُوا جَمِيعًا، وَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامًا يَحْرُسُونَهُ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ إِلَى الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ وَسَجَدَ الْآخَرُونَ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَتَأَخَّرَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً أُخْرَى، فَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامًا يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا سَجَدَ هَؤُلَاءِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ". قَالَ أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ: " فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ مَرَّتَيْنِ، مَرَّةً بِعُسْفَانَ وَمَرَّةً فِي أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ ".
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at a place called Usfan when the time of the Zuhr prayer came, and Khalid bin al-Walid was the commander of the polytheists. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Companions in the Zuhr prayer. The polytheists said: "The prayer after this one is more beloved to them than their sons, their wealth and their own lives." They meant the Asr prayer. Then, between Zuhr and Asr, Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and this verse was revealed: "When you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand with you, and let them carry their arms." [Surah al-Nisa: 102]
When the time of prayer came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) formed two rows, and the Companions had their weapons with them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said "Allahu Akbar" while the enemy was in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They all said "Allahu Akbar" and they all bowed. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the row that was next to him (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, while the other row remained standing, keeping guard. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished and stood up for the second rak'ah, the others prostrated. Then the second row moved to the place of the first row, and the first row moved to the place of the second row. He (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the second rak'ah. They all bowed; then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the row that was next to him (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, while the others remained standing, keeping guard. When they had finished, those others prostrated; then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the salam.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعْدٍ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ قَالَ: " كَانَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْبُطُونَ مَسَاوِيكَهُمْ بِذَوَائِبِ سُيُوفِهِمْ، فَإِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ اسْتَاكُوا ثُمَّ صَلُّوا، وَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَانَ يَأْخُذُ سَيْفَهُ أَوْ قَوْسَهُ فَيُصَلِّي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ". أَبُو سَعْدٍ الْبَقَّالُ غَيْرُ قَوِيٍّ.
Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There were some people among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (may Allah be pleased with them) who used to tie their tooth-sticks (miswak) to the sheaths of their swords. When the time of prayer came, they would use the miswak and then pray. And when the time of prayer came for any one of them while he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would take hold of his sword or his bow and pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
