Al-Qasim bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Al-Walid bin Uqbah delayed the prayer in Kufah, and I was sitting with my father in the mosque. Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, called the iqamah and led the people in prayer. Al-Walid sent a message to him: "What led you to do this? Did an order to be obeyed come from the Commander of the Faithful, or did you initiate this on your own?" He said: "No order came from the Commander of the Faithful, nor have I introduced an innovation. Rather, Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid that we should wait for you in our prayers while you remain busy with your affairs."

Al-Qasim bin Abd al-Rahman reports from his father, from his grandfather Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me there will be rulers who will delay the prayers from their times and will introduce innovations." Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If I meet them, what should I do?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O son of Umm Abd! You ask me what you should do? There is no obedience to one who disobeys Allah."
