أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أنبأ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، أنبأ الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الصُّفُوفِ فَقَالَ: " أَلَا تَصُفُّونَ كَمَا تَصُفُّ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ؟ " قَالُوا: وَكَيْفَ تَصُفُّ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ؟ قَالَ: " يُتِمُّونَ الصُّفُوفَ الْمُقَدَّمَةَ وَيَتَرَاصُّونَ فِي الصَّفِّ ". أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to the rows and said: "Will you not form rows as the angels form rows before their Lord?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: How do the angels form rows before Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They first complete the front rows, and they close up the rows."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّزَّازُ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، ثنا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَتِمُّوا الصَّفَّ الْأَوَّلَ، ثُمَّ الثَّانِي، وَإِنْ كَانَ نَقْصٌ كَانَ فِي الْمُؤَخَّرِ ".
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Complete the front row first, then the second row; and if there is any shortfall, let it be in the last row."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ فَضْلِ الصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ، فَأَخْبَرَنَا عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " أَتِمُّوا الصَّفَّ الْمُقَدَّمَ، ثُمَّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، فَمَا كَانَ مِنْ نَقْصٍ فَلْيَكُنْ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ ".
Abd al-Wahhab bin Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sa'id bin Abi Arubah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the virtue of the first row, and he narrated from Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him), from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Complete the first row, then the one next to it; and whatever shortfall there is, let it be in the last row."
