In the narration of Ubaydullah: He (Abu Hurayrah) said: No. This reached Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he said: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) has narrated a great deal on his own account. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: Do you reject anything of what he says? He said: No, but he was bold and we were timid. When this reached Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: What is my fault if I memorised and they forgot?

Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw some people lying down after praying two rak'ahs, before the Fajr prayer. He said: Go and ask them what has prompted them to do this. I went and asked them, and they said: We intend (to follow) the Sunnah. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Go and tell them: This is an innovation (bid'ah).
