Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) told him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him and to his daughter Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at night and said: "Do you two not pray at night?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! Our souls are in the hand of Allah; when He wishes to wake us, He wakes us. When I replied, he (peace and blessings be upon him) went away without giving any reply, and as he was turning away I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, while striking his hand on his thigh: "'And man is, more than anything, given to dispute' [Surah al-Kahf: 54]."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when a man saw a dream he would relate his dream to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: I too wished to see a dream and relate it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I was an unmarried young man and used to sleep in the mosque. I saw that two angels came to me, and one said: "Take him to the Fire." I began saying: "I seek refuge with Allah from Hell." Then another angel met us and said to me: "Do not be alarmed." They took me towards Hell and we stood at its edge. It had two posts like those of a well, and in it I saw men whom I knew. In the morning I related my dream to Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) related it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What a good man Abdullah is, if only he would pray at night." Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: After that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) slept very little at night.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you sleeps, Satan ties three knots at the back of his head. With each knot he says: The night is very long, so sleep. When he wakes up and remembers Allah, a knot is untied. If he performs ablution, the second knot is also untied, and if he prays, the third knot is also untied, and the person begins the morning in a happy state. If he does not do this, he begins the morning thoroughly lazy."

Likewise (through another chain).
Sufyan did not attribute it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and did not mention Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him); he made it the words of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Dawud said: The hadith of Sufyan is mawquf (stops at the Companion).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah and it was said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had arrived, I too came along with the people to see him (peace and blessings be upon him). When I saw his (peace and blessings be upon him) face, I recognised that this could not be the face of a liar. The first thing I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was this: "O people! Feed others, spread the greeting of peace, maintain the ties of kinship, and pray at night when people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace."
