Abu Salamah says: I asked Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): How was the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Ramadan? She said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray more than eleven rak'ahs, either in Ramadan or outside Ramadan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray four rak'ahs; do not even ask about their excellence and length! Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray four rak'ahs, and there was no measure to their excellence and length. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray three rak'ahs. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Do you (peace and blessings be upon him) sleep before praying witr? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! My eyes sleep, but my heart stays awake."

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray twenty rak'ahs and witr in Ramadan, outside of congregation.
Only Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin Uthman al-Absi al-Kufi narrated it, and he is da'if (weak).

Al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b and Sayyiduna Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be pleased with them both) to lead the people in the night prayer with eleven rak'ahs. The reciter would recite surahs of about a hundred verses each (al-mi'in), so that we would lean on our sticks because of the length of the standing, and we would only return at the break of dawn.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in Ramadan, in the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), they used to perform the night prayer with twenty rak'ahs, and they would recite surahs of about a hundred verses each (al-mi'in), and in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) the people would lean on their sticks because of the length of the standing.

Yazid bin Ruman (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) the people used to perform the night prayer of Ramadan with 23 rak'ahs.
The reconciliation between the two narrations is that at first they used to pray eleven rak'ahs in the night prayer, then they began praying twenty rak'ahs, and at the end they would pray three rak'ahs of witr.

Zayd bin Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give us time to rest in Ramadan, that is, between two sets of tarawih he would give a break long enough for a person to go out of the mosque to the hill of Sal'. Perhaps he meant the one who led the tarawih by the order of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).

Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray four rak'ahs at night, then rest; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would make the rak'ah so long that I would feel pity for him. I would say: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you (peace and blessings be upon him)! Allah has forgiven all your (peace and blessings be upon him) earlier and later sins! He (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Should I not be a grateful servant of Allah?"
Only al-Mughirah bin Ziyad narrated it, and he is not strong.
