Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) led those praying behind him in the Isha prayer and made the recitation long. A man among us left the prayer and went away. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was told about him, and he said: He is a hypocrite. When that man came to know of this, he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about what Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) had said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Mu'adh! Do you want to put people to trial? When you lead people in prayer, recite 'By the sun and its brightness' [Surah al-Shams: 1], 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High' [Surah al-A'la: 1], 'By the night when it covers' [Surah al-Layl: 1] and 'Recite in the name of your Lord who created' [Surah al-Alaq: 1]."
