(a) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in a patterned cloak with black borders, then said: "The markings of this cloak kept me distracted. Take it to Abu Jahm and bring me a coarse sheet."
(b) In the narration of Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It kept me distracted from my prayer."

(a) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Abu Jahm bin Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) a Syrian sheet as a gift which had some markings on it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in it. When he gave the salam ending the prayer, he said: "Return this sheet to Abu Jahm. I looked at its markings during the prayer, and it almost put me to trial."
(b) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) states: We do not know whether he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prostration of forgetfulness or not. And Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) looked at a wall (during the prayer), then mentioned it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we do not know whether he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to perform the prostration of forgetfulness or not.

Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Abu Talhah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was praying in his garden when a pigeon came flying; (because the garden was dense) it kept going back and forth looking for a way out. This amazed him, and for a while his gaze followed the bird. Then, when his attention returned to the prayer, he could not remember how much of the prayer he had prayed. So he said: "This property of mine (the garden) has put me to trial." He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the incident that had happened to him in the garden, which had put him to trial, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I give it as charity; dispose of it as you wish."
