Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in a corner of the mosque. The man prayed, then came to him and greeted him with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wa 'alayka al-salam (and upon you be peace); go and pray, for you have not prayed." He went back and prayed again, then came and greeted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing again. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing to him the third time, he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you stand for prayer, perform ablution well, then face the qiblah and say the takbir; then recite whatever of the Qur'an is easy for you; then bow with complete calm; then raise your head from bowing until you stand straight; then prostrate; then rise from prostration and sit straight; then make the second prostration with utmost calm; then sit up straight with utmost calm; then do the same in every rak'ah."
Abu Usamah affirmed it and said: "Yes."

It is narrated from Abu Usamah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then prostrate with calm, then raise your head from prostration and sit with calm, then make the second prostration with calm, then raise your head from prostration and stand up straight. Complete your prayer in this way."
The correct version is this narration of Ubaydullah bin Sa'id Abu Qudamah and Yusuf bin Musa from Abu Usamah.

(a) A similar narration is reported through another chain. At its end it says that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then raise your head (from the second prostration) until you stand up straight."
(b) Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) has also recorded this narration in his Sahih.
In the narration of Yahya there is no mention of the second prostration, nor of the sitting for rest after the second prostration, nor is the standing mentioned.
(c) And the standing is more fitting, because the pillars (arkan) are being enumerated, not the sunnahs. (And Allah knows best.)

Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Hisham said that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for prayer he would say the takbir, then say the takbir when bowing, then while rising from bowing he would say 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah has heard the one who praised Him), then when he stood up straight he would say 'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd' (Our Lord, and to You belongs all praise), then he would say the takbir when going down into prostration, then when raising his head from prostration he would also say 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest). Then when making the second prostration he would also say the takbir, then when raising his head from the second prostration he would also say the takbir. He would perform the whole prayer in this way. Likewise, when rising from the tashahhud after two rak'ahs, he would also say 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest).

It is narrated from Salim al-Barrad: We came to Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Describe to us the manner of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He stood in front of us in the mosque and said the takbir. Then when he bowed, he placed his hands on his knees and his fingers a little below them, and kept his elbows spread apart, until every limb settled in its place. Then he said 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah', then stood up until every limb settled in its place. Then he said the takbir and prostrated, placed his palms on the ground and kept his elbows away from his sides, until every limb settled in its place. Then he raised his head and sat until every limb was level in its place. Then he made the second prostration in the same way, and then prayed four rak'ahs in the same way. Then he said: "This is how we saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying."
