It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded to prostrate on seven bones and was forbidden to tuck up his hair and his clothes. The seven bones on which he was commanded to prostrate are: the two hands, the two knees, the two feet and the forehead.
This is the wording of Abu al-Rabi's hadith; and in the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) it is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded to prostrate on seven (bones/limbs) and was forbidden to tuck up clothes and hair (the words are either thawban (a garment) or thiyabahu (his clothes)).

It is narrated from Abbas bin Sahl al-Sa'idi (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was in a gathering where his father was also present, who had the honour of being a Companion of the Messenger [may Allah be pleased with him]. In that gathering were also Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah, Sayyiduna Abu Usayd and Sayyiduna Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them). They discussed the prayer, and Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I know the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) better than all of you." They said: "How is that?" Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I learned it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
They said: "Then pray it and show us!" So Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up while the people watched him. He began the prayer. He said the takbir and raised his hands up to his shoulders; then he said the takbir for bowing and raised both hands in the same way (raf' al-yadayn). Then he set his hands firmly on his knees. His head was neither lowered too much nor raised too high; rather, his back was level. Then Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him), raising his head, said: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), 'Allahumma rabbana laka al-hamd' (O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise). Then he raised his hands (raf' al-yadayn), then said 'Allahu Akbar' and prostrated, placing his palms, his knees and the front parts of his feet firmly, while he was in prostration. Then he said the takbir and sat down. Then he laid one foot, the left, flat and kept the right foot upright. Then he said the takbir and prostrated again. Then he said the takbir and stood straight up without pausing. Then he completed the second rak'ah in the same way. Then he sat after two rak'ahs. When he intended to rise for standing, he stood up saying the takbir; then he performed the other two rak'ahs; then he gave the salam to the right and to the left, saying: 'Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah' (Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah).
In another narration, the sitting in tashahhud is also mentioned: that he placed the left hand on the left thigh and the right hand on the right thigh, then pointed with the (index) finger while supplicating.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata that he said: I was in a gathering of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (may Allah be pleased with them). They began to talk about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I know more about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than all of you. I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): when he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for prayer he would say the takbir, then recite. When he bowed he would also say the takbir, and while bowing he would place his hands on his knees and keep his fingers spread apart, and he would neither lower his back too much nor raise it, but keep it level. When he rose from bowing he would stand straight until every limb returned to its place. Then, when he prostrated, he would place his palms, his knees and the tips of his feet firmly on the ground and prostrate with composure. When he raised his head he would sit up straight with composure. After two rak'ahs he would sit, and his way was to keep the right foot upright and lay the left foot flat and sit on it. When it was the fourth rak'ah he would sit on his left hip and bring both feet out to one side."
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) says: In the narration of Abbas bin Sahl from Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) it is that "In prostration he (peace and blessings be upon him) would support himself on his palms, his knees and the tips of his feet."
