أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا الشَّافِعِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الْأَئِمَّةُ ضُمَنَاءُ وَالْمُؤَذِّنُونَ أُمَنَاءُ، فَأَرْشَدَ اللهُ الْأَئِمَّةَ وَغَفَرَ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِينَ " قَالَ الْإِمَامُ أَحْمَدُ: وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ سُهَيْلٌ مِنْ أَبِيهِ إِنَّمَا سَمِعَهُ مِنَ الْأَعْمَشِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam is a guarantor and the muezzin is entrusted. May Allah Almighty guide the imams and forgive the muezzins."
(b) Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Suhayl did not hear this hadith from his father; rather, he heard it from al-A'mash.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو النَّضْرِ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنِي سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الْإِمَامُ ضَامِنٌ وَالْمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ، فَأَرْشَدَ اللهُ الْأَئِمَّةَ وَغَفَرَ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِينَ ".

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّزَّازُ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ الْغَفَّارِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَا: ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا أَبُو الْمُوَجَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْمُوَجَّهِ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ السُّكَّرِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْإِمَامُ ضَامِنٌ وَالْمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ، اللهُمَّ أَرْشِدِ الْأَئِمَّةَ وَاغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِينَ " زَادَ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ تَرَكْتَنَا وَنَحْنُ نَتَنَافَسُ الْأَذَانَ بَعْدَكَ زَمَانًا قَالَ: " إِنَّ بَعْدَكُمْ زَمَانًا سِفَلَتُهُمْ مُؤَذِّنُهُمْ " وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ الْأَعْمَشُ بِالْيَقِينِ مِنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ وَإِنَّمَا سَمِعَهُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam is a guarantor and the muezzin is entrusted; 'Allahumma arshid al-a'immah waghfir lil-mu'adhdhinin' (O Allah, guide the imams and forgive the muezzins)." In the narration of Abu Hamzah there is that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, you have left us competing with one another over the adhan after you for a long time." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After you there will come a time when the lowliest of them will be their muezzins."
Al-A'mash did not hear this hadith from Abu Salih with certainty; rather, he heard it from a man who narrated it from Abu Salih.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), with a hadith like the previous one.

أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْمُزَكِّي بِنَيْسَابُورَ وَأَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْبَزَّارُ بِبَغْدَادَ قَالَا: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَاكِهِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ، ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي مَيْسَرَةَ، ثنا الْمُقْرِئُ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ثنا حَيْوَةُ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ أَبِي صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْإِمَامُ ضَامِنٌ وَالْمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ، فَأَرْشَدَ اللهُ الْإِمَامَ وَعَفَا عَنِ الْمُؤَذِّنِ " وَقَدْ قِيلَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ.
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam is a guarantor and the muezzin is entrusted; may Allah Almighty guide the imams and pardon the muezzin."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْعَلَوِيُّ إِمْلَاءً أنا أَبُو حَامِدِ بْنُ الشَّرْقِيِّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَرَّاءُ وَقَطَنُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالُوا: ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " الْمُؤَذِّنُ يُغْفَرُ لَهُ مَدَى صَوْتِهِ وَيُصَدِّقُهُ كُلُّ رَطْبٍ وَيَابِسٍ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that "The muezzin is forgiven to the extent of the reach of his voice, and every moist and dry thing affirms him."
وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ عَمَّارُ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يُغْفَرُ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِ مَدَى صَوْتِهِ وَيَشْهَدُ لَهُ كُلُّ رَطْبٍ وَيَابِسٍ سَمِعَ صَوْتَهُ " هَذَا الْقَدْرُ مَرْفُوعًا دُونَ الْحَدِيثِ الْآخَرِ أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو الْجَوَّابِ، ثنا عَمَّارُ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ فَذَكَرَهُ وَرَوَاهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ الْغَفَّارِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The muezzin is forgiven to the extent of his adhan, and every dry and moist thing that heard his voice will bear witness for him."
كَمَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ الْغَفَّارِ ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يُغْفَرُ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِ مَدَى صَوْتِهِ، وَيَشْهَدُ لَهُ كُلُّ رَطْبٍ وَيَابِسٍ سَمِعَهُ " وَرَوَاهُ حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ.

كَمَا أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنِ ⦗٦٣٤⦘ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْمُؤَذِّنُ يُغْفَرُ لَهُ مَدَى صَوْتِهِ، وَيَشْهَدُ لَهُ كُلُّ رَطْبٍ وَيَابِسٍ سَمِعَهُ " وَقَدْ رُوِّينَا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مَرْفُوعًا وَرُوِّينَا الْحَدِيثَ الْأَوَّلَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The muezzin is forgiven to the extent of his adhan, and every moist and dry thing that heard him bears witness for him." (b) It is also reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as a marfu' narration. The first hadith is narrated by Hasan al-Basri from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a mursal report.
أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو نَصْرٍ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ أنبأ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ أنبأ يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " الْإِمَامُ ضَامِنٌ وَالْمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ، فَأَرْشَدَ اللهُ الْأَئِمَّةَ وَغَفَرَ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِينَ أَوْ قَالَ: غَفَرَ اللهُ للْأَئِمَّةِ وَأَرْشَدَ الْمُؤَذِّنِينَ " شَكَّ ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ.
It is narrated from al-Hasan (al-Basri) (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam is a guarantor and the muezzin is entrusted; may Allah Almighty guide the imams and forgive the muezzins," or he said: "May Allah Almighty forgive the imams and guide the muezzins." Ibn Abi Adi was in doubt.
وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْمُؤَذِّنُونَ أُمَنَاءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِمْ وَحَاجَتِهِمْ " أَوْ حَاجَاتِهِمْ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ إِجَازَةُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَلَيْسَ بِمَحْفُوظٍ وَرُوِيَ فِي ذَلِكَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ.
It is narrated from al-Hasan (al-Basri) (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The muezzins are the trustees of the Muslims over their prayers and their needs."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا أَبُو غَالِبٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ: " الْمُؤَذِّنُونَ أُمَنَاءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْأَئِمَّةُ ضُمَنَاءُ " قَالَ: وَالْأَذَانُ أَحَبُّ إِلِيَّ مِنَ الْإِمَامَةِ ".
Abu Ghalib said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "The muezzins are the trustees of the Muslims, and the imams are guarantors." And he said: The adhan is dearer to me than the imamate.
