أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ، ثنا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنِ الرُّكَيْنِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ رَجُلًا مَذَّاءً فَجَعَلْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ حَتَّى تَشَقَّقَ ظَهْرِي، قَالَ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَوْ ذُكِرَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا تَفْعَلْ إِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمَذْيَ فَاغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ، وَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ، فَإِذَا نَضَحْتَ الْمَاءَ فَاغْتَسِلْ ".
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I used to have a great deal of madhi (pre-seminal fluid), and I would take a ritual bath until my back became sore. The narrator says: I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or it was mentioned to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do that. When you see madhi, wash your private part and perform ablution as you do for prayer; and when the water gushes forth (that is, semen is discharged), take a ritual bath."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرٍ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ الْهَرَوِيُّ، أنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ، ثنا خَلَّادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ، عَنْ زُرْعَةَ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: " الْمَنِيُّ وَالْوَدْيُ وَالْمَذْيُ، أَمَّا الْمَنِيُّ: فَهُوَ الَّذِي مِنْهُ الْغُسْلُ، وَأَمَّا الْوَدْيُ وَالْمَذْيُ فَقَالَ: اغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ أَوْ مَذَاكِيرَكَ وَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ ". وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فِي الْمَذْيِ نَحْوَهُ.
Zur'ah Abu Abd al-Rahman says: I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) speaking about mani (semen), madhi and wadi: Mani requires a ritual bath; and about wadi and madhi he said: Wash your private part and perform ablution as you do for prayer.
