أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ بُرْهَانَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَا يَقْرَأُ الْجُنُبُ وَلَا الْحَائِضُ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ". قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِيمَا بَلَغَنِي عَنْهُ: إِنَّمَا رَوَى هَذَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ وَلَا أَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ مُنْكَرُ الْحَدِيثِ، عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْحِجَازِ وَأَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ. قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، وَلَيْسَ بِصَحِيحٍ، وَرُوِيَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ فِي الْجُنُبِ وَالْحَائِضِ وَالنُّفَسَاءِ، وَلَيْسَ بِقَوِيٍّ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The junub and the menstruating woman should not recite anything of the Qur'an."
(b) Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning this narration: This narration was transmitted by Isma'il bin Ayyash from Musa bin Uqbah, and I do not know it from anyone else's narration; Isma'il is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected) in what he narrates from the people of Hijaz and the people of Iraq.
(c) The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Others besides Isma'il have also narrated it from Musa bin Uqbah, which is not authentic. It has also been narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah as his own saying concerning the junub, the menstruating woman and the woman in postpartum bleeding, and it is not strong.

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ، نا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْغَطْرِيفِيُّ، أنا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ " أَنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ الْجُنُبُ " قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: وَجَدْتُ فِي صَحِيفَتِي: وَالْحَائِضُ. وَهَذَا مُرْسَلٌ.
It is narrated from Ibrahim that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked the junub reciting the Qur'an.
(b) Shu'bah said: I found in my written record (sahifah) that (he also disliked) the menstruating woman reciting the Qur'an. And this is mursal.
