(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had I not considered it a hardship for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to delay the Isha prayer and to use the siwak for every prayer."
(c) It is narrated from Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I would have ordered them to use the siwak with every prayer."

Hadith Takhrij«صحيح۔ أخرجه البخاري بهذا للفظ 847»
(a) Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Had I not considered it a hardship for the Ummah, I would have ordered them to use the siwak for every prayer."
(b) Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I saw Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting in the mosque, and the siwak was on his ear just as a scribe keeps his pen on his ear. Whenever he stood for prayer, he would use the siwak.
It reached me that al-Bukhari used to say: The hadith of Abu Salamah from Zayd bin Khalid is more authentic. Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi said: In my view both of them are sahih (authentic).
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The last part of this hadith has been reported from Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) through another chain of his.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the siwak used to be on the ear of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) just as a pen is on the ear of a scribe.
(b) Abu al-Qasim (al-Tabarani) said: Only Yahya narrated it from Sufyan. The Shaykh said: Yahya bin Yaman is not strong according to the scholars of hadith, and it seems that he made a mistake, carrying over the earlier hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq to this one.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Hibban that he asked Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him), the son of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Tell me about Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) performing ablution for every prayer, whether he was in a state of ablution or not; why did he do that? He said: Asma bint Zayd bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me that Abdullah bin Hanzalah bin Abi Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was ordered to perform ablution for every prayer, whether he was in a state of ablution or not. When this became difficult for him (peace and blessings be upon him), he was ordered to use the siwak for every prayer. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) held that he had the strength, so he would not leave performing ablution for every prayer.
(b) Sa'id said that in the narration of Ubaydullah bin Abdullah the words are: "When this became difficult for them."

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The prayer for which the siwak is used is seventy degrees superior to the prayer for which the siwak is not used." (This hadith is one of those about which it is feared that they are among the tadlis (concealed omissions) of Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar, and that his hearing it from Imam al-Zuhri is not established.)
Mu'awiyah bin Yahya al-Sadafi also narrated it from al-Zuhri, but he is not strong. It has also been narrated through another route from Urwah from Aishah, and through another route from Amrah from Aishah, and both of them are da'if (weak).

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two rak'ahs prayed after using the siwak are more beloved to me than seventy rak'ahs prayed before using the siwak."
(b) Al-Waqidi cannot be used as evidence.

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Praying with the siwak is seventy times greater than praying without the siwak."
This chain is not strong.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were ordered to use the siwak, and he said: "When a servant stands to pray, an angel comes to him and stands behind him; he listens to the Qur'an and draws near. He keeps listening and drawing near until he places his mouth upon his mouth, and then every verse he recites goes into the angel's belly."
