أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ، أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، ح. وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ إِمْلَاءً، ثنا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ، وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ، فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا: أَلَا تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ؟ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِالنَّاسِ مَعَهُ، وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ، وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ، فَقَالَ: حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسَ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ، وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ، قَالَتْ: فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ، وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى خَاصِرَتِي، فَمَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلَّا مْكَانَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى فَخِذِي، فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ، فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ وَهُوَ أَحَدُ النُّقَبَاءِ: مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتِ عَلَيْهِ، فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ. لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ وَغَيْرِهِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ. وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of his journeys until, when we reached al-Bayda' or Dhat al-Jaysh, my necklace was lost. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed to search for it, and the people stayed with him (peace and blessings be upon him); there was no water there, nor did they have any water with them. The people came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Do you not see what Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people stop here, and they are not at any water (spring or the like), nor do they have any water with them." Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had placed his head on my thigh, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asleep. He said: "You have held back the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people, and they are not at any water, nor do they have any water with them." She said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) rebuked me and said whatever Allah willed, and he kept poking me in my side with his hand, and I did not move only because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had his head on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept until the people reached the morning without water. Then Allah sent down the verse of tayammum, and they performed tayammum. Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Nuqaba' (chiefs), said: "O family of Abu Bakr, this is not the first blessing that has come because of you." Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We raised the camel on which I had been riding, and we found the necklace beneath it.
