It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Asma bint Shakal (may Allah be pleased with her) asked about the ritual bath after menstruation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Purify yourself well with water and lote-tree leaves, then pour water over your head and rub it well until it reaches the roots of the hair, then pour water over it, then take a piece of cotton scented with musk and purify yourself with it." She said: I said: How should I purify myself with it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah)! Purify yourself with it, and cover yourself." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Apply it to the traces of blood. And she asked about the ritual bath for janabah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take water and purify yourself well with it and let it reach (the skin fully), then pour water over your head, then rub it until it reaches the roots of the hair, then pour water over yourself." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The best of women are the women of the Ansar; modesty did not prevent them from asking about the religion and gaining understanding of it.
