أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْقَطَّانُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي قَالَ: وَكَانَ جَدُّهُ أَتَى بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، فَقَالَ: " لَا تَكْتَحِلْ بِالنَّهَارِ وَأَنْتَ صَائِمٌ اكْتَحِلْ لَيْلًا، الْإِثْمِدُ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ " قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ هُوَ ابْنُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ وَمَعْبَدُ بْنُ هَوْذَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ هُوَ الَّذِي لَهُ هَذِهِ الصُّحْبَةُ.
Abu al-Nu'man al-Ansari narrates: My father narrated this to me from my grandfather; and his grandfather came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over his head and said: "Do not apply kohl during the day while you are fasting; apply ithmid kohl at night, for it sharpens the eyesight and makes the hair grow."
