Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to the prayer ground on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr and prayed; then he stood up, admonished the people and commanded them to give charity, saying: "O people, give charity." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the women and said: "O assembly of women, give charity, for I have seen the majority of you in Hell." They said: O Messenger of Allah! Why? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You curse a great deal and are ungrateful to your husbands; and I have not seen anyone deficient in intellect and religion who takes away the mind of a resolute man more than one of you." They said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the deficiency in our religion and what is the deficiency in our intellect? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is the testimony of a woman not equal to half the testimony of a man?" They said: Of course. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the deficiency of your intellect. And is it not that when a woman is menstruating she neither fasts nor prays? This is the deficiency of your religion."
