أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْقَطَّانُ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عِيسَى، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعَدَنِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا الْمُتَعَفِّفَةُ وَالْيَدُ السُّفْلَى السَّائِلَةُ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and the upper hand is the one that refrains (from asking), and the lower hand is the one that asks."
