أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِلْحَانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ تَصَدَّقَ بِفَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَوَجَدَهُ يُبَاعُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاسْتَأْمَرَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا تَعُدْ فِي صَدَقَتِكَ ". فَبِذَلِكَ كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَتْرُكُ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ شَيْئًا تَصَدَّقَ بِهِ أَوْ بَرَّ بِهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَهُ صَدَقَةً. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave a horse in charity in the way of Allah. Then he saw it being sold, and he intended to buy it, so he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and consulted him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not go back on your charity." For this reason, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would not buy anything that he had given in charity or by which he had sought righteousness; (if he did,) he would give it in charity.
