Chapter: When zakah perishes in the hands of the collector, the owner of the wealth is not liable for it
Bayhaqi 7283 — When zakah perishes in the hands of the collector
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، ⦗١٦٤⦘ أَخْبَرَكَ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، وَاللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِذَا أَدَّيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ إِلَى رَسُولِكَ فَقَدْ بَرِئْتُ مِنْهَا إِلَى اللهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " نَعَمْ إِذَا أَدَّيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ إِلَى رَسُولِي فَقَدْ بَرِئْتَ مِنْهَا لَكَ أَجْرُهَا وَإِثْمُهَا عَلَى مَنْ بَدَّلَهَا ".
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a man from Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! When I have given the zakah to your envoy, am I then free of it before Allah and His Messenger? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, when you have paid it to my envoy, you are free of it. Its reward is yours, and its sin is upon the one who altered it."
