أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ كَامِلِ بْنِ خَلَفٍ الْقَاضِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ السُّلَمِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأُوَيْسِيُّ، قَالَ: ذَكَرَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسَ ⦗٢٣٥⦘ إِحْفَاءَ بَعْضِ النَّاسِ شَوَارِبَهُمْ، فَقَالَ مَالِكٌ: " يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يُضْرَبَ مَنْ صَنَعَ ذَلِكَ فَلَيْسَ حَدِيثُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْإِحْفَاءِ، وَلَكِنْ يُبْدِي حَرْفَ الشَّفَتَيْنِ وَالْفَمَ "، قَالَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ: " حَلْقُ الشَّارِبِ بِدْعَةٌ ظَهَرَتْ فِي النَّاسِ ".
Malik bin Anas (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned some people's removing their moustaches down to the root. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Whoever does such a thing deserves to be reprimanded, for there is no hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about removing the moustache down to the root; rather, one should trim from the side of both lips and the mouth. Malik bin Anas (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Shaving the moustache from the root is an innovation that has appeared among the people.
