Bayhaqi 659 — Touching moist impurities

Fatimah bint al-Mundhir (may Allah have mercy on her) said that she heard her grandmother Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) say: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about menstrual blood when it gets on a garment. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Scrape it off, then rub it with water and sprinkle it, then pray in it." (b) Abu Sa'id added in his narration that Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered menstrual blood to be washed off by hand, but did not order ablution because of it, even though blood is more impure than the private part. Every impurity that may be touched does not require ablution, so what is not an impurity at all is even more fitting not to make ablution obligatory, except where an explicit hadith has come about it.
