Safiyyah bint Shaybah (may Allah have mercy on her) narrates from Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was alarmed on the day the sun was eclipsed. In his haste he (peace and blessings be upon him) took up a shirt (dir'), until his cloak was brought to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood with the people for a long time. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand and then bow. If a person had come after he had bowed, he would not have bowed, because it would not have occurred to him that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had bowed, owing to the length of the standing. She said: I saw a woman who was older than me and another woman who was more ill than me, and they were standing. I said (to myself): I have more right than you to stand for longer.
