Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Hafsah (may Allah have mercy on her): We used to forbid our young women from coming to the place of Eid prayer. Then a woman came and stayed near the palace of Banu Khalaf. She narrated from her sister that her husband had taken part in twelve military expeditions with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: My sister was with him in six expeditions. She said: We used to arrange treatment for the wounded and look after the sick. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Is there any harm upon us if one of us does not have a cloak and so does not go out? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let her wear her companion's cloak and attend the good and the supplication of the Muslims." When Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) came, I asked her: Did you hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? She said: Yes. Whenever she mentioned the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), she would always say "bi-abi" (may my father be ransomed for him). I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Young girls, secluded women and menstruating women should certainly attend the good and the supplication, but the menstruating women should keep away from the place of prayer." Hafsah (may Allah have mercy on her) says: I said (in surprise): Even menstruating women? She said: Do they not attend Arafat and such-and-such places?
