Ubaydullah bin Abi Bakr says: When Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) missed the Eid prayer with the imam, he would gather his family and lead them in prayer just as the imam leads the Eid prayer. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he was at his home in al-Zawiyah and did not attend the Eid in Basrah, he would gather his freed slaves and sons, then order his freed slave Abdullah bin Abi Utbah, who would lead them in prayer like the people of the city and say takbirs like their takbirs. And it is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the traveller that if he reaches the time of Duha, he should wait until the sun has risen, then pray two rak'ahs, then if he wants to pray the Duha prayer, he may pray it.
It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the people of the countryside (sawad) gathered for Eid and prayed two rak'ahs as the imam does; it is reported from Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that he liked that when a man missed the prayer of the two Eids, he should go to the open ground (jabban) and pray just as the imam prays; and Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when the Eid prayer is missed, one should pray two rak'ahs, but there are no takbirs in them.
