Sayyiduna Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were sitting in the place of Eid prayer on the day of Eid al-Adha. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and greeted the people with salam, then said: "The first rite of this day of yours is the prayer." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped forward and led two rak'ahs of prayer, then said the salam and turned towards the people. A staff or a bow was handed to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He leaned on it and praised and glorified Allah.
