Sayyiduna al-Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both) and mentioned his story: "O Mu'awiyah, if I speak the truth, then confirm me, and if I lie, then deny me." He said: "I will do so." Al-Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding the wearing of gold?" He said: "Yes." Al-Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I adjure you by Allah, tell me, did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid the wearing of silk?" He said: "Yes." Al-Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke, then asked: "I adjure you by Allah, tell me, do you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing the skins of predatory animals and riding on them?" He said: "Yes."
