Safwan bin Abdullah bin Safwan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) asked permission to enter upon Ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with them both), and beneath him was a silk spread; he ordered it to be removed. Then he entered, and on him was a silk cloak. Ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Sa'd! You asked permission while there was a silk spread beneath me, so I had it removed. Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Ibn Amir! You are a good man, provided you are not among those of whom Allah, the Lord of Might, said: "You exhausted your good things in your worldly life" [Surah al-Ahqaf: 20]. Then he said: By Allah! Lying on the embers of tamarisk wood is dearer to me than lying on it.
