Bayhaqi 5492 — Standing in the obligatory prayer, even on a ship

Humayd al-Tawil (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about praying in a boat. Abdullah bin Abi Utbah (may Allah have mercy on him), the freed slave of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who was with us in the gathering, said: I travelled with Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both); he would lead us in prayer standing in the boat, and we would pray standing behind him, and if we had wished, we could have gone out (onto land).
