أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْمُحَمَّدَآبَاذِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو قِلَابَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْعَتَكِيُّ، ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ وَإِلَّا فَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ ". وَقَالَ: هَكَذَا كَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "If you are able, stand behind the imam; otherwise on the right side of the row." He said: This is how Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to be behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
