وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنبأ عَاصِمٌ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: لَمَّا رَجَعَ قَوْمِي مِنْ عِنْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنَّهُ قَالَ لَنَا: " لِيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْثَرُكُمْ قِرَاءَةً لِلْقُرْآنِ ". قَالَ: فَدَعَوْنِي فَعَلَّمُونِي الرُّكُوعَ وَالسُّجُودَ، فَكُنْتُ أُصَلِّي بِهِمْ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ وَعَلَيَّ بُرْدَةٌ مَفْتُوقَةٌ، فَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ لِأَبِي: أَلَا تُغَطِّي عَنَّا اسْتَ ابْنِكَ ". وَرَوَاهُ مِسْعَرُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَلَمَةَ.
Asim narrates from Sayyiduna Amr bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when my people returned from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "Let the one among you who has read the most Qur'an lead you in prayer." He says: They called me and taught me bowing and prostration. I would lead them in prayer while I was a boy, and I had a torn sheet on me, so they would say to my father: "Will you not cover your son's backside from us?"
