Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Isha prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) found some men missing, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is so-and-so present?" It was said: No. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is so-and-so present?" It was said: No. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is so-and-so present?" They said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These two prayers, i.e. Isha and Fajr, are very heavy upon the hypocrites. If they knew what reward there is in coming to them, they would come even if they had to crawl on their knees. A man's praying together with another is more beloved than (praying) alone, and praying together with two men is better than (praying) with one man; and the more there are, the more beloved it is to Allah. And the first row is like the row of the angels."
