أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ، ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ مُخْتَارِ بْنِ فُلْفُلٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ، بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، فَقَالَ: " كَانَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَضْرِبُ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ " قَالَ: " وَكُنَّا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ " فَقُلْتُ: هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّاهُمَا؟ قَالَ: " قَدْ كَانَ يَرَانَا نُصَلِّيهِمَا فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا، وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَغَيْرِهِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ.
Mukhtar bin Fulful said: I asked Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) about prayer after Asr, and he said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to strike people for praying after Asr. He said: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) we used to pray two rak'ahs after sunset, before the Maghrib prayer. The narrator said: I said: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pray two rak'ahs? He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to see us praying (them), and he neither ordered us nor forbade us.
