أنبأ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَنَزَلَ فِي عُلْوِ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي حَيٍّ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ بَنُو عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ، فَأَقَامَ فِيهِمْ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَجَاءُوا مُتَقَلِّدِينَ بِسُيُوفِهِمْ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى ⦗٦١٥⦘ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رِدْفُهُ وَمَلَأُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ حَوْلَهُ حَتَّى أَلْقَى بِفِنَاءِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ، وَيُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ، وَأَنَّهُ أَمَرَ بِبِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى بَنِي النَّجَّارِ " ثَامِنُونِي بِحَائِطِكُمْ هَذَا " فَقَالُوا: وَاللهِ لَا نَطْلُبُ ثَمَنَهُ إِلَّا إِلَى اللهِ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَكَانَ فِيهِ مَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ، كَانَتْ فِيهِ قُبُورُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، وَكَانَتْ فِيهِ خِرَبٌ، وَكَانَ فِيهِ نَخْلٌ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقُبُورِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَنُبِشَتْ، وَبِالْخِرَبِ فَسُوِّيَتْ وَبِالنَّخْلِ فَقُطِعَ، وَصَفُّوا النَّخْلَ قِبْلَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ، وَجَعَلُوا عِضَادَتَيْهِ حِجَارَةً، وَجَعَلُوا يَنْقُلُونَ الصَّخْرَ وَهُمْ يَرْتَجِزُونَ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ: اللهُمَّ لَا خَيْرَ إِلَّا خَيْرَ الْآخِرَةِ، فَانْصُرِ الْأَنْصَارَ وَالْمُهَاجِرَةَ ".
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah and stayed for fourteen days with the tribe of Amr bin Awf in the upper part of Madinah. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for Banu al-Najjar, and they came armed with their swords. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is as if I can see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on his she-camel, with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) riding behind him and the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar around him (peace and blessings be upon him), until he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted in the courtyard of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray wherever the time of prayer came upon him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would also pray in sheepfolds. He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the mosque be built and sent word to Banu al-Najjar: "Take the price of this land of yours," but they refused to accept any price. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In that land there were graves of the polytheists, ruins and palm trees. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the graves of the polytheists be dug up, and they were dug up; the ruins were levelled and the palm trees were cut down. They lined up the palm trunks as the qiblah wall of the mosque and made its doorposts of stone. They carried the stones, reciting verses, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with them: 'Allahumma la khayra illa khayru al-akhirah, fansuri al-Ansara wa al-Muhajirah' (O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so help the Ansar and the Muhajirun).
