The grandmother of Bakkar bin Yahya said: I went to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and a woman of Quraysh asked Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) a question. She (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when one of us menstruated, she would spend the days of her menstruation, and when she became pure she would look at her clothes; if blood had got on them she would wash them and pray, and if there was no blood on the clothes, nothing would prevent us from praying. And when we took a ritual bath, we did not undo our hair; we would only pour three handfuls of water on our heads, and when we felt the wetness at the roots of the hair we would rub it, then pour water over the whole body.
