أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: وَأَحْسَبُنِي أَنَا قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي شَهْرٍ " قَالَ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً قَالَ: " فَاقْرَأْهُ فِي عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً " قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً قَالَ: " فَاقْرَأْهُ فِي خَمْسَ عَشَرَةَ " قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً قَالَ: " فَاقْرَأْ فِي عَشَرَةٍ " قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً قَالَ: " فَاقْرَأْهُ فِي سَبْعٍ وَلَا تَزِدْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Complete the Qur'an every month." I said: I have the strength (to complete it in less than that). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then complete it in twenty nights." I said: I find even more strength than that. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then complete it in fifteen days." I said: I have the strength to complete it in a shorter period than that. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then complete it in ten days." I said: I still have the strength. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then complete it in seven days, and do not complete it faster than that."
