Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) reported this from Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him), and he also narrated it from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b, Zayd bin Abi Thabit and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them all); and other hadith scholars besides him also narrated it from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar and Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with them both).
(a) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not prostrate in any of the Mufassal surahs after he moved to Madinah.
(b) Likewise, Bakr bin Khalaf, the son-in-law of al-Muqri', narrated this report from Azhar (bin al-Qasim), and in its text it says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated in Surah al-Najm when he was in Makkah, but when he emigrated to Madinah he left it.
This hadith revolves around al-Harith bin Ubayd Abu Qudamah al-Iyadi al-Basri. Yahya bin Ma'in declared him da'if (weak), while Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated from him and said: He was one of our shaykhs. What is preserved from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas is the report that follows.
